Top Achievers Scholarship

The government of Botswana through the ministry of Education & Skills Development offers undergraduate scholarship to student with outstanding academic performance to pursue courses that are of strategic importance in terms of driving the economic diversification and sustainable growth agenda of Botswana. The fields of study for the scholarship include Finance, Business, Engineering, Medical Health, ICT, and Science at  undergraduate level. The  Botswana Excellence scholarship is awarded annually for the period of study at institutions of repute worldwide. The initiative is intended to motivate young people to excel in their studies and get recognition
The Aim
The aim of  the Top Achievers initiative is to promote both hard work and enhance excellence and consequently promotes the quality of education.

Selection Criteria
The top achievers scholarship was launched in 2009 with 19 students qualifying for the programme and placed in a number of universities in England, Australia and US, in 2010, 30 students qualified and they were also placed in various universities abroad. In 2011, the ministry extended the scholarship to the achievers, that is those who attain 4 A*s and better but fall short of 6A*s. The initial total number of students who qualified for the scholarship in 2011 was 99. Effective 2012, the scholarship will be in two categories as per the selection criteria below.
Category A

  • Students who have attained 6A* or equivalent at BGCSE or IGCSE in the last examination.
  • Student who have obtained a minimum of three A’s at A-Level, IB or equivalent.

Learners in this category will be considered for external placement for tertiary education immediately.
Category B

  • Student who have attained at least 4A*s at BGSCE or IGCSE in the last examination.
